Black Children’s Book Week is right around the corner, and we at The Nap Time Show are thrilled to be part of the celebration. From February 23rd to March 1st, we’ll be honoring Black authors, illustrators, and stories that inspire children and families around the world.

What’s Happening During Black Children’s Book Week?
Black Children's Book Week is a wonderful initiative to celebrate Black authors, illustrators, and stories, fostering a love of reading and storytelling among children. We’ve planned a series of events that are perfect for families looking to enjoy stories, music, and creative activities together. Whether you’re joining us from the comfort of your home or you’ll be in Detroit for our live performance, there’s something for everyone! Here’s a rundown of what’s in store:
🔴 February 23rd: Live Bedtime Story on YouTube
Time: 7:00 PM EST
We’re kicking off Black Children’s Book Week with a special live bedtime story on YouTube! Gather the kids, grab your cozy blankets, and tune in for a calming bedtime tale that celebrates Black culture. Not only will we be reading a wonderful story by a talented Black author, but we’ll also be engaging with you through live comments! Be sure to comment on our Instagram and Facebook pages for a chance to get a shoutout during the live premiere.
It’s the perfect way to wind down and start your evening with a restful moment while learning about diverse cultures and stories.
🔴 February 26th: Wednesday Night Reading Trivia on Zoom
Time: 8:00 PM EST
How well do you know Black authors and illustrators? Think you can name the author of your favorite children’s book? Well, it’s time to put your knowledge to the test in our Reading Trivia Night on Zoom! We’ll dive deep into the world of Black children’s literature, covering everything from classic stories to new releases. Plus, there are awesome prizes up for grabs!
This event is a fun, interactive way to learn more about the creators behind some of the most inspiring and important books for kids. Whether you’re a newbie or a trivia expert, this event is for everyone!
🔴 February 28th: Virtual Karaoke – Read and Sing Along!
Time: 6:00 PM EST
Get ready to bring out your inner performer with our Virtual Karaoke event! Join us on Instagram Live where we’ll be reading and singing along to songs and stories from Black children’s books. This event is all about fun, creativity, and celebrating music, with a focus on children’s books that come alive through song.
Whether you’re belting out a favorite tune or quietly humming along, this interactive session is sure to bring joy to both kids and adults. It’s a wonderful way to get into the spirit of Black Children’s Book Week while also promoting the idea that rest and play can go hand-in-hand.
🔴 March 1st: Free Live Performance in Detroit – A Grand Finale!
Time: 2:00 PM EST
The grand finale of Black Children’s Book Week will be a live performance in Detroit, and we’d love to see you there! Join us at the Detroit Public Library Parkman Branch for an afternoon of song, dance, reading, giveaways, and so much more. This free event will be a celebration of Black literature, culture, and community. We’ll be reading stories, sharing songs, dancing, and providing fun activities for kids and families to enjoy.
And yes, we’ll make sure the activities are naptime-friendly, so parents and caregivers can relax too while the kids enjoy the festivities!
