My Nap Time Show Intern Experience

Nyko Burns 08/14/25

My name is Nyko Burns, I’m 17 years old born and raised in Detroit. I currently attend the Detroit School of Arts as a rising senior and had a wonderful opportunity to work with the Bloomberg Arts Internship over the summer.

After being accepted into the program I was excited to be partnered with the amazing Sierra Boone along with another fellow intern. Sierra is the founder of The Nap Time Show which is a children’s show on PBS and YouTube that helps kids wind down for naps. I learned how to use the arts in a business setting, and what’s behind the scenes when promoting and making a show.

Working on my episode for Season 3

The main goal for this internship was to create a meaningful project that was to be created by the time it was over. Sierra allowed me and my colleague to create a script for an episode that would be put into season 3 of The Nap Time Show. We started by brainstorming ideas, and finding the main topic for our scripts. My idea was to make an episode that focuses on conflict and resolution in friendship, and how to navigate your emotions when having conflicts with friends. We also created a song that goes with our main topic to put in the episode. The other part of our meaningful project was to reach out to daycare workers and interview them about the struggles of everyday life in a daycare setting and what we can do to make learning easier. We brainstormed questions to ask and even called daycare centers to see if they were interested. Overall the whole process was a great experience and forced me out of my comfort zone in a good way!

If you know someone, and or interested in the arts, apply to the Bloomberg Internship through CultureSource. It is eligible for incoming seniors in high school and is an amazing way to spend the summer all while getting paid. If lucky enough, you can get paired with my supervisor Sierra, and she’ll teach you what it’s like to be a business owner, and how to run a show.
