Storytime for Change: FREE Youth Mental Health Workshops in Detroit

At The Nap Time Show, we believe that every child has a unique story to tell.

Our new project, Storytime for Change, is designed to empower children to express their feelings and experiences through interactive storytelling. This project, led by our foundation Pour Forward, was awarded funding from the Nickelodeon Our World US Community Fund, supported by Nickelodeon! We can’t wait to get started! Thanks to ChangeX too!

By combining creative writing, performance, and community engagement, this program not only enhances emotional literacy but also builds a stronger, more supportive community.

“When children are given the space to share their stories, they find the courage to heal and the power to connect.”

Why Storytelling Matters

Mental health issues among children have risen significantly—especially post-pandemic. Research shows:

  • Creative self-expression can boost overall life satisfaction, with studies suggesting the benefits can be as impactful as the effects of aging 20 years.

  • A positive sense of community reduces the likelihood of severe depression, anxiety, and stress by up to five times compared to a negative community environment.

Storytelling offers a powerful medium for children to process emotions, build resilience, and learn that their voices matter. Our program is tailored to foster this process in a safe and engaging space.
